Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival turns 30
Arguably Conyers’ most popular festival, the Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival reaches a milestone this year as it enters its 30th year featuring arts, crafts, food, entertainment and the celebration of the Japanese culture. This year’s festival is scheduled for Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free with a $5.00 parking fee.
To celebrate the 30th annual festival, organizers are offering unique opportunities for festival-goers to take part in the anniversary. Everyone becomes part of the show at the high-energy Nick’s Kids Show and everyone can help decorate for the festival by participating in the Cherry Tree Art Activity. Children ages 12 and under are encouraged to take part in the Passport Scavenger Hunt for a chance to win a Cherry Blossom Festival plush horse souvenir named Blossom. The martial art of archery will be on display in demonstrations by the Georgia Kyudo Renmei and Kyudo Alliance on the main stage. The Japan-America Society of Georgia will be on-site with handmade origami items.
“The Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival began 30 years ago on the grounds of Maxell Corporation and has grown into an award-winning, regional festival that we’re happy has its home at the Georgia International Horse Park,” said Event Manager Rebecca Hill. “Whether you’ve come each year of the festival or are a first-time visitor, we hope you’ll come enjoy this special 30th celebration with your family, friends and neighbors.”
GIHP staff recently attended the Southeast Festivals and Events Association (SFEA) Conference held at Stone Mountain Park. The Kaleidoscope Awards Ceremony held during the SFEA Conference showcases the best and brightest in the event industry. This year, the Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival won a bronze “Best Sponsor” award for National EMS in the Best Sponsor in a Festival with a Budget Under $75,000 category and the festival also won a gold “Best Volunteer” award for the Salem High School Football Team in the Best Volunteers in a Festival with a Budget Under $75,000 category. In past years, the festival has been named “Best Festival” and was also named a Top 20 Event for March by the Southeast Tourism Society.
